After four and a half months, and more than 12,000 doses of vaccines given, Camano Island Fire & Rescue will end its local vaccine clinic in June.
“Taking care of our community means more than just responding to 911 calls,” Chief Levon Yengoyan said. “We stepped up to lead this effort, knowing that access to the vaccine would be difficult, especially for our older residents, and especially with such high demand.”
Thanks to the partnership of the Camano Center, Island County Public Health and hundreds of volunteers, Camano Fire was able to vaccinate adult-home patients in late January, and open its first public clinic at the beginning of February. The clinic transitioned to a pop-up model at locations around the island in late April and May.
Even though no new pop-up vaccine clinics are planned, Camano Fire crews will ensure that people who got first doses of Pfizer are able to get their second doses in late May and June.
