Clean state, federal audit for Camano Island Fire & Rescue

Oct. 22, 2020

It’s a clean audit, with no findings, for Camano Island Fire & Rescue.

Earlier this month, the Washington State Auditor’s Office completed an Accountability, Financial Statement, and Federal Grant Compliance Audit covering a two-year period, from Jan. 1, 2018, through Dec. 31, 2019. The audit found that CIFR operations complied with applicable state laws, regulations, and its own policies, and provided adequate controls over the safeguarding of public resources.

“We’re pleased – but not surprised – by the results of our audit,” said Fire Chief Levon Yengoyan. ”Camano Island Fire & Rescue has a long history of financial responsibility and excellent stewardship of taxpayer dollars. We’ve received clean audits from the state Auditor’s Office for the past 12 years.”

This was the first year CIFR underwent a federal grant compliance audit. In its exit interview the Auditor’s Office commended CIFR for its diligence in meeting all applicable (and updated) compliance requirements:

“Considering that the grant program selected for audit was unique, and that there have been recent updates to federal requirements for procurement policies, the District receiving a clean federal audit is outstanding. It was a pleasure to work with such a pro-active local agency.”
