The goal of Camano CARES is simple: Give Camano Island residents the support they need to successfully age in place. Our Community Assistance Referral & Education Services (CARES) team can help you find, understand, and use the services you need to improve your health and well-being. Services are confidential and free.

- Check your home for fall risks and suggest ways to fix them
- Manage and understand your medications
- Explain your medical conditions and find more support
- Know what to do after you leave the hospital
- Connect with in-home support, and financial and food help

How CARES works
CARES is a free, confidential referral service available to everyone. You can refer yourself, a friend, family member, or neighbor to CARES.
Camano Fire may also refer people to CARES if appropriate. People may be referred by EMTs or Paramedics, or identified due to multiple 911 calls for falls or other routine medical assistance.
CARES will come to you and help you get the support you need – like help with yardwork or home repairs, medication management, or transportation to appointments.
Who is on the CARES team?
The CARES team is made up of Camano Fire EMTs, Paramedics, and one Registered Nurse.
Why CARES matters
Camano Island has only one medical clinic on the island and is 30-plus miles away from the nearest hospital. That means residents have to travel a long way just to get medical care.
CARES fills that gap – especially for the 44% of Camano residents who are 60 years old or older.
CARES is a community-based, proactive program that helps residents get access to the care and services they need before it becomes an emergency.
Partners
CARES partners include the Camano Center, Northwest Regional Council (NWRC), and Island County Public Health.
