The nonprofit Medic One Foundation recently announced the establishment of a dedicated Camano Island Fire & Rescue Fund to support lifesaving emergency care on the island.
“The Medic One Foundation has a long history of supporting local emergency care,” Fire Chief Jason Allen said. “We’re grateful that the Foundation sees the value of expanding its investment in Camano Fire and we’re excited for the ways this partnership can improve the quality of care in our community.”
Three of Camano Fire’s current 12 paramedics are graduates of the Medic One paramedic training program.
Since 2019, Camano Fire has applied for and been awarded four Medic One Foundation equipment grants. Most recently, a $5,000 equipment grant allowed the department to purchase five new, fully stocked pediatric kits. Packed based on age and weight, these kits mean EMTs and paramedics can quickly find the tools they need to take care of their youngest, smallest patients.
“Camano Island’s firefighters and paramedics are an essential part of our region’s lifesaving network,” Foundation Board President Craig Peterson said. “This new fund is a natural next step in supporting a community that plays such a vital role in saving lives.”
Donations made to the Camano Fire Fund are tax-deductible and will directly support the lifesaving work of Camano Island’s firefighter/EMTs and paramedics. The Medic One Foundation will manage the fund and ensure every gift is used to enhance training, purchase essential equipment, and strengthen emergency care on the island.
To officially launch the Camano Fire Fund, the Medic One Foundation hosted a late-July kickoff event at the home of Foundation Board President Craig Peterson and his wife Cassandra.
Camano firefighters and paramedics performed a high-intensity CPR demonstration and a local cardiac arrest survivor, treated by Camano Fire firefighters and paramedics, shared her story of recovery.
To date, donors have contributed more than $21,000 to the Foundation’s dedicated Camano Fire Fund.
As a nonprofit partner, the Medic One Foundation can help donors make a lasting difference through many giving options – including memorial or tribute gifts, stock gifts, or a contribution from a donor-advised fund. Every donation stays dedicated to Camano Fire, creating a long-term source of support for the community’s emergency responders.
