After more than five years leading Camano Fire, Chief Levon Yengoyan is stepping down effective March 31, 2025.
“Serving this community as its fire chief has been an incredible honor,” Yengoyan said. “I feel so fortunate to have been surrounded by such talented, compassionate people and proud of the work we have accomplished during my time as chief. I’m stepping away with the full confidence that this department is in capable hands and will continue to provide exceptional service to our community.”
During a special meeting on Dec. 23, 2024, the Board of Fire Commissioners voted to appoint current Assistant Chief Jason Allen to the position of Fire Chief.
“We have all seen the tremendous impact that Chief Yengoyan has had on our department and recognize the legacy he will leave behind,” said Jerry Evans, Chair of the Board of Fire Commissioners. “We look forward to working with Chief Allen in establishing our next chapter of success.”
The Board will conduct a formal swearing-in ceremony for the new chief this spring.
“I have dedicated 27 years to this community and department,” Allen said. “It has shaped who I am as a firefighter and as a leader – and I feel deeply grateful that I have the honor to serve as its next chief. I have big shoes to fill but I am confident the organization will continue to grow and provide the exceptional service our community has come to expect.”
Allen began his career with Camano Fire as a volunteer in 1997 and was one of the first full-time career firefighters hired by the department in 1999. Allen was promoted to Captain in 2001 and again in 2008 after the department restructured. He spent 3 years as an Administrative Captain and 12 as the department’s training officer. Allen was promoted to Assistant Chief in August of 2019.
