Firefighters spent the first overnight shift in Camano Fire history at Mabana on Friday, Oct. 24. This was a huge milestone for the south end and for Camano Fire.
Firefighters have staffed Mabana every day for more than a year, but because the station never had sleeping quarters, crews spent the night at the Country Club station.
The temporary bedrooms and upgraded bathrooms were the fastest way for Camano Fire to bring 24/7 staffing to the south end of the island but they aren’t a permanent solution. Work to permit and begin construction on a new Mabana fire station is currently underway.
