Camano Fire maintains WSRB Protection Classification

Camano Fire maintained a Protection Class rating of 5 in its most recent review by the Washington Surveying and Rating Bureau. A Protection Class score  represents the community-provided fire protection capabilities available at a specific property

Properties rated as a 5 must be within five road miles of a responding fire station and must have access to water, either from a standard fire hydrant or from a Camano Fire water tender truck.

“Protection Class ratings are a team effort and we appreciate the support of our water associations and dispatch agency throughout this process,” Chief Jason Allen said. “The review process requires us to provide a lot of data. I’m proud of our crews for their dedication to documenting each call and making sure our records support the quality service we provide to our community.”

Ratings are based on four factors: The fire department itself, fire safety controls, emergency communications and water supply. Many insurance companies use WSRB classifications as one factor in setting homeowner fire insurance premiums.

The WSRB rates the fire protection capabilities of all fire departments in the state approximately every 5 years and provides a rating from 1 to 10. The lower the rating, the better the fire protection capability. Most fire protection districts in the state are rated between a 4 and an 8.
