Camano Fire received a $170,000 grant from the Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians to purchase new radio equipment for its firefighters.

The department plans to use the grant funds to buy 41 new portable radios that are compatible with upgraded Snohomish County communications systems. Without upgraded radios, Camano Fire wouldn’t be able to communicate with its mutual aid partners in north Snohomish County.

Camano Fire had originally budgeted for the entire purchase price for 41 radios. The Stillaguamish grant means that the department can reallocate $170,000 to other needs.
