Today was the first day of school for 22 fire cadets from Stanwood High School. Six cadets are returning as second-year students.
Our yearlong cadet program is part of the CTE department and prepares students for future careers in the fire service. Several 2023 cadet graduates are working as volunteers in our department with the goal of becoming career firefighters.
Each cadet has a brand new, industry-standard helmet this year in memory of Camano resident Bette Phillips. One of her final bequests was a donation to Camano Fire to be used for school fire education activities. We are extremely grateful for Bette’s willingness to invest in our future firefighters.
